Ready to start Step 2? Great!

By now, you have had some meaningful conversations about your family’s values. You’ve made key decisions on the character traits, skills, and experiences you’d like for your child.

It’s a huge first step – way to go!

But, up until now, this is all a dream. A wish. It’s an “I-hope-this-will-happen” thought.

We Need A Plan.

How to Create Your Family Culture | Step by Step Guide for Intentional ParentingWe need to develop a strategy to make our dreams come true for our family!

That’s what Step 2 is all about. It’s taking the values, character traits, skills, experiences, and milestones you want for your child and creating a plan.

Sounds complicated, right? Don’t worry – it’s not. It’s not complicated, but it is intentional.

It all boils down to one main question:

How Do We Increase the Odds of this Happening?

It’s not complicated, but it is intentional.

Let’s say you want to develop the value of Generosity in your family…
…How can you increase the odds of this happening?

Maybe you want your child to develop confidence…
…How can you increase the odds of this happening?

Perhaps it’s time for your child to learn some basic cooking skills…
…How can you increase the odds of this happening?

You may have a goal for your family to visit all 50 states before your child graduates…
…How can you increase the odds of this happening?

This is the time for you to think creatively and brainstorm ways to incorporate these goals into your life.

“We Don’t Have Time!”

I know what you’re thinking. “We are already soooo busy. We cannot fit one more thing into our lives – how are we going to add this family culture stuff?”

We’d like to propose, for a moment, that you are already creating a family culture. You’ve already developed a culture based on how you live every-day moments.

Family culture isn’t created on holidays. It’s created during:

  • Dinnertime
  • Car rides
  • Bedtime
  • School Drop off
  • Bathtime
  • Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons
  • Chore time

An intentional family culture isn’t an addition to your life – it’s a substitution. You will be taking every day moments and filling them with intentional family culture.

An intentional family culture isn’t an addition to your life – it’s a substitution.

These seemingly mundane, normal moments in your family’s day will become your child’s anchors in life.

It takes the pressure off, doesn’t it? This isn’t some fancy plan filled with Instagram-perfect moments. It just being intentional and present during the moments you’re already having as a family.

Let’s start building a strategy.

1. Get the Creating Your Family Culture | Step 2 Guide.

2. Have your completed Step 1 from your Creating Your Family Culture | Step by Step Guide handy.

Haven’t completed Step 1 yet? You can get it here and complete it before moving on to Step 2.

3. Find a distraction-free time to complete the Step 2 Guide.

Just like with Step 1, focused time to discuss freely without distractions is helpful. Whether it’s getting a babysitter or scheduling time after kids are sleeping, making the extra effort will be a great investment in this process.

4. Make one change at a time.

If you’re anything like us, we look at big game plans and say, “All right! We need to change everything about our life tomorrow!”

Setting too many goals at once sets us up to fail. We’d rather focus on one thing and do it consistently. Once that one thing becomes part of our family culture, we can move on to the next thing.

You have permission to focus on one thing at a time! Brick by brick.
