Encouraging Verses for Parents

We’ve all had those days – grumpy faces, whiny attitudes, grumbling & complaining…I’m talking about me! 😃

Add to the mix some bickering siblings, messy beds, a barking dog, and it’s time for a reset.

There’s an even split between whether I’ll yell, cry, or walk away.

These moments require a deep breath and some intentional action.

I once heard that the only way to fight negative thoughts is to speak positive words.

Don’t believe me? Here’s the example we teach our kids: Picture a red dog.

Really…close your eyes and picture a red dog. (How are you still reading this with your eyes closed?)

Picture it in close detail — big or small? Long or short fur? Waging tail? Anyone picturing Clifford the Big Red Dog?

The only way to fight negative thoughts is to speak positive words.

Close your eyes and picture the dog as if it were real. Then, say out loud, “PURPLE CAT.”

What happened to the red dog?

It disappeared from your mind! All that time studying the red dog, looking at the red dog, and it’s instantly erased by a few short spoken words.

It’s impossible to say something out loud and think something else in your head at the same time. When we’re thinking…

…”These kids are crazy!”
…”I’m failing as a parent”
…”They’re never going to get along”
…”What is wrong with this family?”

We need to flip the script in our mind toward something positive. Something hopeful. Something promising.

There’s no better place to find encouragement than God’s Word! The Bible is filled with God’s promises for us and our families.

When I feel overwhelmed, instead of thinking, “I can’t do this!” I try to say, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

So if you ever see me talking to myself, you know what’s up. 😂

The Bible is such a vast source of encouragement and guidance, it’s sometimes difficult to know where to start. Below are seven encouraging Bible verses for parents – one for every day of the week, and all of them are especially helpful on hard days!
